MRO shareholders OK IBM deal

September
18

Shareholders at MRO Software Inc. voted in favor of IBM Corp.’s purchase of the Bedford, Mass., company during a special meeting today.

The $740 million deal has already passed muster with the Federal Trade Commission and is expected to close during the first half of next month, MRO said in a written statement.

In announcing the deal last month, Big Blue said it intends to fold MRO’s operations into IBM’s Tivoli software unit. MRO makes software that helps companies manage equipment, facilities, transportation, and information technology hardware and software.

Armonk-based IBM and MRO have collaborated since 1996.

MRO customers include Heineken, which has offices in White Plains, Frito-Lay, a unit of Purchase-based PepsiCo, as well as Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp., and Exxon Mobil Corp., among many others.
