PepsiCo Inc., the Purchase-based soft drink giant, said that it is introducing a new soft drink designed to appeal to young adults looking for extra energy to get through hectic days.
The new drink, Diet Pepsi MAX, is a zero-calorie cola with extra caffeine and a touch of ginseng, according to PepsiCo. The product is scheduled to reach stores nationally in June.
The target market is 25-34 year-old diet drinkers and what the company calls “transitioners, or those switching from regular colas to diet drinks.
“Adults have told us that they’re constantly looking for the right balance to get them through their day and Diet Pepsi MAX is uniquely formulated to give the mind and body a boost, said Cie Nicholson, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Pepsi-Cola North America.
The new drink is the latest in the Pepsi portfolio of 13 colas that include caffeine-free, diet and flavored versions. Diet Pepsi MAX will be sold in 20-ounce bottles, two-liter bottles and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans. The company plans to introduce the drink through an extensive marketing and advertising campaign.
Earlier this month, PepsiCo said that earnings rose to $1.78 billion, or $1.06 a share, in the fourth quarter, up from $1.11 billion, or 65 cents a share, a year earlier.
