IBM Corp. of Armonk has been awarded a 10-year contract to improve an India-based cell phone company’s business processes and computer systems.

The contract with Idea Cellular Ltd. could be worth up to $800 million, depending on Idea Cellular’s revenues and expansion.

Idea Cellular, which has more than 14 million customers, said it expects the contract to help it control costs and increase revenue streams.

IBM shares closed at $94.50, up 51 cents yesterday.
