IBM Corp. announced plans today to reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions 7 percent by 2012 through energy conservation and recycling. The effort marks the second time Big Blue has partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to reduce greenhouse gases, IBM said in a statement.
A similar pledge in 2002 to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 4 percent in 2005 actually resulted in a 6.2 percent reduction, it said. Additionally, the company said its work-at-home and mobile initiatives reduced the amount of carbon dioxide attributable to workforce commuting by 68,000 tons last year.
Shares of IBM ended today’s trading lower by 17 cents to $95.19.
