Local corps among Top 50 DiversityBusiness honorees

Several companies based in the Lower Hudson Valley or with a large local work force here have been selected for a list of America’s Top 50 Organizations for Multicultural Business Opportunites.

The list is produced by DiversityBusiness.com, an online business-to-business Web site. The companies and their rankings include: Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (3), Coca-Cola Co. (8), IBM Corp. (12), United Parcel Service Inc. (15), Home Depot. Inc. (No. 19), PepsiCo Inc. (24) and Verizon Communications Inc./Verizon Wireless Inc. (29).

The top ranking went to AT&T Inc.

They will be honored at DiversityBusiness.com’s 7th Annual Multicultural Business Conference April 11 to 13 in Las Vegas. The votes were cast by more than 500,000 women- and minority business owners, who based their choices on which companies provided the best and most business opportunites for women- and minority-owned companies.

“In a marketplace that is increasingly as sensitive to diversity as it is to revenues, recognizing the top buyers of multicultural products and services is becoming a natural part of the new socioeconomic food chain, DiversityBusiness.com Chief Executive Officer Kenton Clarke said in a statement.
