State approves low-income utilities program

March
27

A program designed to provide temporary assistance with utility bills to residents served by Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. has been approved by the state Public Service Commission. The three-year, $4 million Enhanced Power Opportunities Program assists qualified low-income families and provides information and coaching on energy conservation through a program of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. It will serve about 1,000 customers and is expected to begin this fall. Meanwhile, an interim program is available.

To qualify, families must get heat or natural gas from Central Hudson, whose service area includes parts of Putnam County. In addition, they must meet income qualifications, receive benefits from the Home Energy Assistance Program, have arrears of at least $100 and meet other requirements. For more information, visit Central Hudson’s Web site (www.centralhudson.com) or call 845-452-2700 or 800-527-2714.
