A New Rochelle-based business is expanding its business model to help women who may be victims of stalkers.
Protective Countermeasures Inc. has opened a Threat Assessment Center at its offices at 308 Main St., where women who feel they may be victims of stalking and harassment can get assistance, it announced today.
The center was opened “to deal with predominantly women since they’re the biggest victims of stalking, said President Sal Lifrieri, former director of security and intelligence for the New York City Office of Emergency Management.
Though New York state has stalking laws on the books, Lifrieri said, “The problem is a lot of times law enforcement just doesn’t have the resources to put to the case.
That’s where the TAC can help, he said. By utilizing proprietary software and employing techniques used in police investigations, Lifrieri and his staff of 11 can help pull together the evidence needed to help law enforcement build a case against the alleged stalker.
“It gives (stalking victims) the opportunity of turning to someplace that actually has experience and programs instead of a private investigator, for example, who may not have experience in stalking, or collecting and analyzing information for a database, Lifrieri said.
The for-profit company charges $150 for a one-hour initial consultation. Fees beyond that are based on clients’ needs.
Protective Countermeasures, which has been in business since 2001 and has built its business in assessing threats to high-profile executives and entertainers, also acts as a clearing house for those who can’t afford its services, Lifrieri said, directing those in need to agencies where they can get help.
Still, he said, Protective Countermeasures is willing to work with those victims who are in dire need of the company’s services but who can’t afford them.
