Kaitlin Walsh, a Brewster resident studying abroad in Ireland, was presented last month with an “Idea of the Year Award by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation.

The award recognizes innovative solutions in the areas of logistics, air, safety and environment, sea, rail and road.

Walsh, who majors in marketing in at Fairfield University in Connecticut, took home the prize in the “rail category for her idea to employ a reusable card for public transportation throughout Ireland. She was presented with the award in Dublin.

In her plan, the card would look like a credit card, and use radio frequency identification technology in order to allow easy boarding and convenient travel around Ireland.
