Sierra Mist seeks comedians

May

Just as “American Idol is coming to a season close, there’s a new competition coming to a computer screen near you.

The “YouTube Sketchies is an online comedy competition sponsored by Sierra Mist Lemon Squeeze, a product of Purchase-based Pepsi-Cola North America.

Sierra Mist Lemon Squeeze goes on sale at stores nationwide today.

Aspiring sketch comedians are invited to submit their digital shorts on YouTube in a three-round, nine-week competition. The first round begins on Thursday and ends a week later on May 31.

Comedians need to upload the first comedic short that week and keep the comedy building week after week to attract fans.

The first round of sketches will be judged by Hollywood agents, writers, producers and executives, who will choose 20 finalists. The top 20 will be released online at YouTube on June 7 to find the top 10 to move to the next round.

In rounds two and three, the field will be winnowed further until the winning series of digital shorts is shown on July 12.

All the entries must be original and less than 3 minutes long.

Prizes include a production budget and shot at making an original comedy short for Sierra Mist Lemon Squeeze as well as a trip and a movie screening.
