Reader’s Digest International president to resign

June
19

Thomas D. Gardner, president of Reader’s Digest International and Direct Holdings Worldwide, will resign at the end of the month “to pursue other opportunities, according to a statement released by the Chappaqua-based company.

The move is part of a reorganization that has been going on since Reader’s Digest was acquired in March by an investor group led by Ripplewood Holdings LLC. At that time, Mary Berner became the president and chief executive officer of Reader’s Digest Association Inc., a global publisher and marketer of books, magazines, music collections and videos.

“At the time of the transaction, Tom offered to stay on at RDA for a period of time to assist me in the transition and provide continuity of leadership in senior management, Berner said in a written statement. “I am extremely grateful for Tom’s support, and now he has decided that this is the right time for him to move on.
