Starwood Hotels to nix trans-fats

June
19

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. plans to eliminate artificial trans fatty acids from foods and beverages at its hotels in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean by the end of 2007, the White Plains-based company announced today. Its 400-plus hotels include the Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, Westin, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Le Meridien and W brands.

Research has linked the consumption of trans fats to heart disease and other ailments. While some governments have banned their use in food-service venues — such as those in Westchester County’s Playland Amusement Park in Rye — a growing number of servers are voluntarily switching to more healthful cooking oils. That’s the case at Starwood.

“We are committed to offering our guests healthier options when they travel, said Paul Scott, vice president, food and beverage, for Starwood Hotels in North America, in a statement.

well trans fat is probably getting the same nonsense. since 1911 its been used and its almost 100 years later and most people that used crisco etc are still alive. go figure. Everything in moderation.
