Barr wages patent fight

Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. said today its Pomona-based Barr Laboratories Inc. subsidiary is challenging a patent by Boehringer Ingelheim over capsule forms of the latter’s Aggrenox stroke medication. Barr is seeking to produce a generic version of the drug. Boehringer Ingelheim filed a lawsuit Wednesday seeking to block Barr’s effort. Aggrenox had sales of about $258 million in the United States last year, Barr said, citing industry data.
