The Westchester County Board of Legislators this week approved a plan by the Department of Consumer Protection to seize the trucks and tools of building contractors who perform work without licenses. Contractors would be able to get their property back by applying for a license and by posting a bond for any potential fines they may face. The new law also calls for increasing the fines for contractors caught working without licenses. A second violation will cost $5,000 and a third violation $10,000. Under the existing law, the fine is $1,000 per violation.
