Prestige Brands profits drop

Prestige Brands Holdings Inc. said this morning profits for the second quarter of its fiscal 2008 dropped to $6.8 million, or 14 cents a share, from last year’s $8.8 million, or 18 cents a share.

The company said the withdrawal from the market of its Little Remedies products hurt earnings. Without that action, earnings would have been $8.1 million, or 16 cents a share.

The company withdrew the cough and cold medicines from the market amid concern that they were ineffective.

The company said revenues were up to $87.34 million from $84.55 million.
