European regulators want more information from EpiCept

March

Shares of EpiCept Corp., a biotechnology company in Tarrytown, plunged this morning after the company disclosed that European regulators want more information before approving an application to market Ceplene, a drug to prevent patients from suffering relapses of a type of leukemia.

EpiCept shares were trading at 56 cents, down 22 cents just before 1:30 p.m.

The company said the European Committee for Medicinal Products requested more data to support the third phase of testing EpiCept performed on the drug.

The committee said the tests were not “adequately statistically compelling,” EpiCept disclosed.

The committee found no significant safety concerns regarding the drug, EpiCept said. The company plans to appeal.
