Derektor Shipyards files for bankruptcy

July
22

Derecktor Shipyards, the Bridgeport, Conn. company that has an operation in Mamaroneck, has filed for bankruptcy protection.

The company says on its Web site that its Mamaroneck shipyard opened in 1947 for the construction and repair of custom yachts. The business later grew to include the construction and maintenance of a wider variety of types of boats.

Derecktor said on its bankruptcy petition that it owes its largest creditor, Zepsa Industries Inc. of Charlotte, N.C., $723,291.

The lawyer representing the company in the bankruptcy could not be reached for comment.

But Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch told The Associated Press that Derecktor executives told him the filing is intended to help the company negotiate a contract dispute with a customer.
