BP station converting from repairs to convenience

September
24

The BP station at 335 North Broadway in Sleepy Hollow has a new business model. The station has done away with its repair business and opened a convenience store.

Peter Castro, the owner, said it’s gotten harder to run a profitable repair garage as automobiles improve and require fewer repairs. The advent of leasing also hurts repair garages, he said, because drivers are less likely to make repairs on cars they don’t own. The store will continue to sell gasoline.

“So many people are leasing cars and when they lease cars they just don’t fix them. They change the oil, at most,” he said. “The trend is that you have to convert these bays into something other than auto repairs.”

Castro, who is turning the station over to his son to run, said the convenience store is called Broadway Blitz. The station will hold an open house Saturday from noon to 4.
