Bunge Ltd., the White Plains-based agribusiness giant, and Itochu, a Japanese trading company, expect to invest $800 million in two joint ventures that will produce sugar and ethanol in Brazil.
In one project, Itochu will buy a 20 percent stake in a sugar-cane mill in Santa Juliana, Brazil, that Bunge bought last year. Bunge and Itochu plan to expand the production capacity from 1.6 million tons to 4.2 million tons within four years.
In a second project, the companies said they will build a new sugar and ethanol mill in Brazil.
