Textbook publisher raises $700,000

Flat World Knowledge, a Nyack-based publisher of college textbooks, said that it has raised $700,000 in new funding from investors that include media executives, educators, authors and technology entrepreneurs.
That brings the total funding raised by the company to $1.4 million.
The company said that it expects to conclude a larger round of fundraising from venture investors and strategic partners within the next six months.
“We’re pleased to complete this funding round under favorable terms, especially in light of the uncertain economic environment,†Jeff Shelstad, co-founder and chief executive officer of Flat World Knowledge, said in a written statement.
