Profits surge at AboveNet

AboveNet Inc., a White Plains-based telecommunications company that provides high-speed data links, reported net income of $27.4 million, or $2.22 per share, during the first quarter. That compared to net income of $3.4 million, or 28 cents a share, a year earlier.
Revenues surged 20.5 percent to $85.4 million.“Our first quarter 2009 performance gave us an excellent start to the year,” Chief Executive Officer Bill LaPerch said in a written statement. “We built on the momentum we gained in 2008 and we are on track for another year of solid growth” in revenue and earnings.
