“Coach Your Sales People Into Sales Champions” is the topic of the Westchester County Association’s Lunch & Learn program on Thursday, June 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mapleton Room at Good Counsel, 52 North Broadway, White Plains.

Chamber plans African-American book festival this Saturday

The African American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester and Rockland Counties and QBR/The Black Book Review will host the West/Rock African American Book Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Mount Vernon City Hall Plaza.

Yonkers BID to hold Internet marketing talk

The Yonkers Downtown Business Improvement District will present a free seminar, “Secrets of Internet Marketing,” Tuesday morning from 8-9 at the Yonkers Riverfront Library at 1 Larkin Center. African American chamber to host business exchange

The African American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester and Rockland Counties Inc. will hold its 10th Annual Business-to-Business Exchange on Thursday at the Yonkers Public Library at One Larkin Center from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Participating vendors will include purchasing representatives from trade associations, state agencies and companies. The African American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester and Rockland Counties, Inc. will hold its tenth annual Business-to-Business Expo on Thursday, March 26, at the Yonkers Public Library at One Larkin Center in Yonkers from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Yonkers BID to hold merchandising seminar

The Yonkers Downtown Business Improvement District will sponsor a free seminar, “Curb Appeal: Store Merchandising Tips,” tomorrow, March 10 from 8-9 a.m. at the Yonkers Riverfront Library, 1 Larkin Center.
Speakers include Maureen Farrell, project manager and treasurer of the New York City Chapter of the Retail Design Institute; Nicole Innis, owner of Innis Designs; and Steve Sansone, executive director of the Yonkers BID.
The seminar is part of the Yonkers Downtown BID’s new Sunrise Seminar Series designed to provide local business owners/merchants with practical tips and guidance to help them during these tough economic times.

Business expo in Tarrytown expects 1,000 on Thursday

The worst business environment in decades has failed to dent interest in this Thursday’s Mega Mixer Business Expo, the annual trade show sponsored by The Business Council of Westchester.
The program will run from 2-6 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown. Two hundred exhibitors and 1,000 visitors are expected, about the same as last year. In the tougher economic climate, businesspeople are looking to expand their list of prospects, council spokeswoman Hillary Millman said.
“People are looking for opportunities anywhere they can find it,” she said.
A new feature this year is the Speakers Spot. Council members will give 15-minute talks on the following topics: how to transition from unemployed to being a business owner; new media; building brand awareness; housing solutions for relocating employees; infrared thermography; going paperless; and voice over the Internet (VoIP) telephone service.
A feature continued from last year will be the Green Aisle, featuring 30 ecology-friendly companies. Visiting businesses will be invited to take the “Green Business Challenge” by adopting environmentally sound practices.

Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown chamber to host networking event

The Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce will host its winter networking event on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will provide attendees a look at the Hudson Harbor condo development on the Tarrytown riverfront.

The cost is $45 for pre-registrants and $50 at the door. Those attending the event should go to the Sleepy Hollow train station and take the railroad overpass. After crossing the tracks, they should make a left, and then a right on West Main St. Signs will direct attendees to the location of the event. Chamber offers 2-for-1 memberships

In a tough economy for workers and small businesses alike, one local organization is turning to a marketing tool commonly found in supermarkets—the buy one, get one free special—to recruit new members who may be on tight budgets.

The African American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester and Rockland Counties Inc. is offering two memberships for the price of one to individuals and small businesses that apply by Jan. 23.

The chamber said that it is offering the 2-for-1 deal to build its membership base and help businesses that are struggling in a slow economy.

“We empathize with the small business owner and invite them to come aboard at the 2-for-1 charge to show that we understand,” Chamber President Robin Douglas said.

The memberships are good for one year. Cost of memberships is $85 for individuals and $225 for small businesses with up to five employees, according to the chamber’s Web site.

African American Chamber launches TV show

The African American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester and Rockland Inc. will launch a television show, “The Chamber Reports,” on Friday at 9:30 p.m. The show is designed to inform the public about the services that the chamber provides and will also feature guests who will talk about their professions. The show can be seen on White Plains CableVision on channel 76 or Verizon Cable on channel 45.
