IBM Corp. said that a new five-year contract to provide information technology services to Dow Chemical Co. includes helping the chemical giant with the integration details of a recent buyout.

Under the agreement, Armonk-based IBM will help Dow integrate the computer systems of Rohm and Haas Co. into Dow’s technology network. Dow, a chemical giant with sales of $58 billion in 2008 and 46,000 employees, recently completed its acquisition of Rohm and Haas, a specialty materials company.

IBM’s responsibilities under the contract will include operating a global service desk to assist 50,000 computer users, offering audio conferencing services and supporting the technology systems at Dow’s offices in 53 countries. The new agreement, signed in June, continues a decades-long relationship between IBM and Dow and expands an outsourcing services contract signed in 2004.
