Progenics Pharmaceuticals Inc., an Eastview-based biotechnology research company, and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals said today that Wyeth applied to regulators in Europe for permission to market a drug for constipation caused by certain types of pain medicines.
The companies said Wyeth applied to the European Medicines Agency for marketing rights for methylnaltrexone. Progenics submitted the same application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in March.
Submission to the European regulators means Progenics receives a $4 million payment from Wyeth.

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc. of Harrison, the air cargo services company, and DHL have gotten a key regulatory approval for DHL Express to acquire a 49 percent interest in Atlas subsidiary Polar Air Cargo Worldwide Inc.
Atlas said this morning that the U.S. Department of Transportation has issued final orders approving the deal. The company said it is still working on getting approval from the Federal Aviation Administration and foreign regulators.
Atlas Air and DHL announced last November they had agreed to a 20-year commercial arrangement that will give DHL access to Polar’s six Boeing 747-400 Freighter planes and other benefits. Atlas Air estimated the deal would bring in up to $3.5 billion in revenues.
DHL, a shipping company that is a subsidiary of German-based Deutsche Post AG, will also get a 25 percent voting interest in Polar in exchange for $150 million.
Atlas Air shares were trading at $59.13, up 23 cents, at 10:07 this morning.

ITT Corp., a White Plains-based provider of advanced technology products and services, announced today that it has been awarded a U.S. Air Force contract to provide drug surveillance services for the Headquarters Air Combat Command Acquisition Management and Integration Center at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. The contract involves supporting aerial counter-drug surveillance with air traffic control, airfield operations, communications services, food service, billeting, civil engineering, emergency fire response and other support, ITT said.
“This vital mission is a key component of protecting our hemisphere from the threat of illegal drugs,� Pete McKinney, president of the ITT Systems Division, said in a written statement. “ITT is proud to continue its 40-year legacy of partnership with Air Combat Command and its predecessor, Tactical Air Command — both in this theater and worldwide.�
The project started on April 1. The award for the phase-in and base period is $7.9 million, and the contract has a potential value of $194 million with all options exercised.

MMS — A Medical Supply Co. reports it has moved its East Division executive offices, formerly in Pelham Manor, to 145 Huguenot St. in New Rochelle, where the company employs about 55 people.
Separately, MMS announced it agreed to a five-year renewal of a contract with Continuum Health Partners Inc., a nonprofit operator of five New York City hospitals. The $200 million pact covers medical supplies and equipment, said MMS, which is based in Earth City, Mo.

IBM Corp. of Armonk has been awarded a $153.4 million, three-year contract to supply technology that will help a South African bank reduce its costs, the bank said this morning.
Absa, the bank, said IBM will provide an array of technical and consulting services. Ian Russell, the chief procurement officer for Absa, said the two companies have had a business relationship in the past. But this contract is the largest the two companies have ever signed, Absa said.
IBM shares closed at $96.10 yesterday, up 89 cents.

Electro-Optical Sciences Inc. announced today that it has signed an agreement with L’Oreal to study the feasibility of using EOS’ imaging technology for the evaluation of pigmented skin lesions of cosmetic importance.
EOS, based in Irvington, is a medical device company that focuses on the early detection of melanoma, the rarest but most deadly form of skin cancer.
The company has granted L’Oreal an option to use its technology in research funded by L’Oreal.
MelaFind, its flagship product, uses a hand-held imaging device that to capture images of suspicious pigmented skin lesions and extract data. The data is then analyzed against a proprietary database of melanomas and benign lesions to provide information physicians and a recommendation on whether the lesion should be biopsied.
“We are delighted to collaborate with the L’Oreal researchers in Paris who are acknowledged worldwide leaders in the science of skin conditions,â€? said Dr. Joseph V. Gulfo, president and chief executive officer of EOS, in a written statement. “The work that we will perform with L’Oreal is based on the years of clinical research that we have undertaken and experience that we have amassed in the development of MelaFind. Important multi-spectral imaging-based diagnostic systems for cosmetic conditions may result directly from this collaboration.â€?
EOS shares closed at $5.15, up 15 cents, or 3 percent in trading on the Nasdaq.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Eastview announced this morning that it has agreed to let a Japanese company use Regeneron technology in its research in return for an upfront payment of $20 million and the possibility of more payments in the future.
Astellas Pharma Inc. of Tokyo will use the VelocImmune technology in its quest to develop human antibody products. Astellas will make up to five future annual payments of $20 million based on the success of the research. If Astellas commercializes any products, it would pay Regeneron a royalty on sales.
Regeneron shares closed yesterday at $21.25, down 29 cents.

IBM Corp., the Armonk-based computer giant, has been awarded a seven-year, $775 million contract from Circuit City Stores Inc., the electronics retailer, the companies said this morning.
The contract will help Circuit City modernize its computer and information systems faster while cutting costs, the companies said. IBM will provide support for more than 600 Circuit City stores and more than 43,000 Circuit City workers across the nation, the companies said. IBM will also provide new technologies to improve customers’ shopping experience.
IBM stock was priced at $94.16, down 57 cents in early-morning trading.

IBM Corp. of Armonk has been awarded a 10-year contract to improve an India-based cell phone company’s business processes and computer systems.
The contract with Idea Cellular Ltd. could be worth up to $800 million, depending on Idea Cellular’s revenues and expansion.
Idea Cellular, which has more than 14 million customers, said it expects the contract to help it control costs and increase revenue streams.
IBM shares closed at $94.50, up 51 cents yesterday.

Purchase-based MasterCard Worldwide and USA Technologies Inc. announced today that a Coca-Cola bottler in the Southwest has begun using high-tech vending machines that accept MasterCard’s PayPass technology.
Great Plains Coca-Cola Bottling Co., which vends beverages and snacks in northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas, is the third major U.S. bottling company to convert to cashless and contactless vending machines in recent months, the companies said.
In addition to PayPass, the vending machines also accept major credit cards and cash.

Principals of Houlihan Lawrence Real Estate have closed their White Horse Mortgage Services affiliate as part of a deal to obtain lending services for clients from Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.
Most of the staff at the former White Horse now work exclusively for Houlihan Lawrence at the Wells Fargo office in White Plains, said Stephen Meyers, chief executive officer at Houlihan Lawrence.
Meyers said Wells Fargo’s expertise and marketing resources attracted the Bronxville-based independent real estate agency to the deal.
White Horse was formed in 1998; about six to eight staffers joined Wells Fargo, Meyers said.

Par Pharmaceutical Cos. Inc., which has operations in Chestnut Ridge, said this morning that it has returned the marketing rights for a drug for diarrhea to Optimer Pharmaceuticals Inc. of San Diego in return for $20 million.
Par and Optimer had had an agreement to develop the drug Difimicin. Optimer will continue to develop the drug.
Par was a selling shareholder in Optimer’s initial stock offering and received $6.8 million from the sale of 1.05 million shares. Par will also get $5 million from Optimer when certain goals regarding the drug are met. Par will also get royalties from Optimer based on sales of the drug.
Par shares closed yesterday at $24.86, down 26 cents.

Fujifilm U.S.A. Inc., the Valhalla-based film giant, announced an agreement with Xerox Corp. of Stamford, Conn., to offer retailers a complete photo printing system to create photo books, photo calendars, greeting cards and other customized photo products for customers. The new system, to be installed in kiosks at the retailers, will include Fujifilm’s digital photo technology and Xerox’s Phaser 7760 tabloid color laser printer. Terms of the agreement between the companies were not disclosed.
